What is the shadow copy?
The Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is a set of COM interfaces that implements a framework to allow volume backups to be performed while applications on a system continue to write to the volumes.

Backup Exec 2010 R3 error message “0xe000847e – This edition of the product is not licensed for the requested operation”
Issue : The Backup Jobs that were created in evaluation version would fail with “Final error: 0xe000847e – This edition of the product is not licensed for the requested operation.” The Advanced Disk based Backup Option (ADBO) has expired.
This issue is caused if you have DRT backup policy selected for your Exchange in Symantec Backup Exec. To resolve this you have to run a few patches and make some registry changes.
